Description
Why Choose the RB2000?
When you need to physically separate vehicles, the public and a work area, the RB2000 does the job without the cost or installation effort of permanent barriers. Empty, each unit is light enough for two people to position; filled, it provides a solid 400kg deterrent that stays put. That combination, easy to deploy, heavy once in place, is what makes water-filled barriers the standard choice for temporary perimeters.
The bright red-and-white finish keeps the barrier visible day and night, and the reflective strip means the system meets Chapter 8 requirements for road and street works. Whether you’re managing a footpath diversion, fencing off a demolition zone or controlling crowds at a large event, the RB2000 gives you a compliant, reusable perimeter you can set up and break down in minutes.
Key Features
- Interlocking 5-position connection – the male and female ends link together and pivot at 90°, so you can run straight lines, turn corners and build enclosures from the same blocks.
- Anti-slide design when stacked – units locate securely on top of one another for storage and transport.
- Built-in forklift point – move full or empty barriers around the site quickly and safely.
- Front and end stops – reduce trip hazards along the base of the run.
- Top fill cap and low-level drain point – fill from a standard water source on site; the easy-empty point sits at the bottom for quick draining.
- Fencing-ready – accept Heras fence panels or solid steel hoarding on top (secured with bolts) when you need extra height, screening or security.

Where It's Used
The RB2000 suits a wide range of temporary perimeter and separation jobs: roadworks and lane closures, construction and demolition sites, site security and pedestrian management, dockyards and airport airside areas, and large-scale events where free-flowing traffic needs to be kept apart from the public. It also helps reduce congestion and protect surrounding property and the environment from site activity.
For projects where a shorter barrier is more practical, our 1m water-filled Evo traffic barrier offers a compact solution for road vehicle management, pedestrian safety and temporary site works.
How to Install
- Check you have a water supply on site before you begin.
- Position each barrier one at a time, with the reflective strip facing the traffic or pedestrians.
- Connect the blocks — two people lift each unit to slot the male peg end into the female socket of the next.
- Fill through the top cap once the run is connected.
- Add fencing if required — fit Heras or hoarding panels and secure with the supplied bolts, then join panels with temporary fencing couplers.
As a guide, a single-line connection between two units takes around two minutes, and roughly 100 linear metres can be installed in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, depending on layout and ground conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can The RB2000 Be Used as a Crash Barrier To Stop a Moving Vehicle?
No. The RB2000 is a separation and delineation barrier; it physically marks and protects a boundary but isn’t rated for vehicle impact containment. If you need a barrier designed to redirect a moving vehicle, look at a tested crash barrier such as the RB22 instead.
What Do I Fill It With, And Can I Use Something Other Than Water?
Water is the intended ballast and is what the ~400kg filled weight is based on. In freezing conditions, operators sometimes add a salt or antifreeze solution to stop the water inside from icing up. Check your site requirements before doing so.
How Do I Connect Two Barriers with Different Ends?
Each block has a female socket on one side and a male peg on the other. To build a continuous run, you simply line them up so the male end of one drops into the female end of the next; they’re designed to alternate automatically along a line.
Does It Need To Be Bolted To The Ground?
No. The RB2000 relies on its filled weight to stay in position, so no ground fixing is required, making it ideal for hard surfaces like tarmac and concrete, where you can’t or don’t want to drill.
Can I Drive A Forklift Up To A Full One And Move It Without Emptying It?
Yes, each unit has an integrated forklift point so it can be lifted and repositioned. Bear in mind a filled barrier weighs around 400kg, so confirm your forklift’s rated capacity before lifting
How Many Do I Need Per Metre?
Each barrier covers 2 linear metres, so a 100m run needs roughly 50 units in a single straight line. Allow for corners and any gateways when calculating your order.
