The coupler is pressed from steel and galvanised, so the zinc coating holds off rust and corrosion through months of British weather. As a rule of thumb, fit one coupler near the top and one near the bottom where each panel meets a scaffold upright, so every panel is tied at both ends. A standard double or swivel coupler is made to join one scaffold tube to another. This fitting is shaped specifically so that one side clamps a flat hoarding panel while the other grips the round tube, a job a tube-to-tube coupler can’t do securely. Using the purpose-made hoarding coupler means a proper, flush grip on the panel rather than an improvised fixing that can slip.
Yes, the bolt is built into the coupler, so there are no separate nuts or fixings to buy. You tighten it with the same type of scaffold spanner used across standard scaffold fittings (commonly a 7/16″ head), so if you’ve got a scaffolding kit on site, you almost certainly already have the right tool in the bag.
They’re designed to come off cleanly when you strike the hoarding, so undamaged couplers can go straight back in the stillage and be reused on the next site. As with any galvanised fitting, give them a quick check before refitting and set aside any that are bent, stripped or seized rather than forcing them back into service.
No drilling. The coupler clamps onto the outer frame or edge of the hoarding panel and closes down onto it as you tighten the bolt, so the panel stays intact, and you can reposition the brace anywhere along the tube.
